Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Anna Elizabeth (master Hinderrich Christian Mau or Man).

History: a Hamburg ship (100 lasts, 15 men and 1 passenger), bound from Hamburg to Cadiz, Malaga and Marseilles, laden with pipe staves, linen, tin, glasses, bottles, copper etc; taken on 30 August / 10 September 1746 off Dungeness by the privateer Carlisle (William Owen commanding) and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master, October 1746;
  • [CP 8]: allegation, December 1746;
  • [CP 9-CP 9b]: interlocutory act, December 1746, two schedules of goods as exhibits;
  • [CP 10-CP 67]: 57 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations, taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg, Geneva, Amsterdam, Lubeck, Nurnburg, Landshut, Altona, Hirschburg, Berlin and Bremen, brought into court December 1746;
  • [CP 68a]-[CP 96]: 30 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations, taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Amsterdam, Bremen, Hamburg, Brandscheid, Laipzig, Augsburg, Hildesheim, Hirschburg, brought into court February 1747;
  • [CP 97-CP 101]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in German and Dutch, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in Spanish, admiralty registry extract, wrapper.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 143.

  • SP 1-SP 124: bills of lading issued at Hamburg;
  • SP 125-SP 126: customs paper, docket;
  • SP 127-SP 128: cargo manifest, docket;
  • SP 129-SP 134: 4 receipts, 2 cargo lists;
  • SP 135-SP 142: certificates issued by the Spanish consulate in Hamburg, authorising the shipment of goods;
  • SP 143: rough notes.
