Description

Captured ship: Jonge Eldert (master Jasper Stühven otherwise Gaspar Stukven or Stuven).

History: a Hamburg ship (45 lasts, 4 men and 2 passengers), Rouen to Hamburg laden with linen, cotton, dyers' wood etc; taken on 1 / 12 May 1748 by the privateer Endeavour (Robert Crousscuall commanding) and brought into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 7]: standing interrogatories, four examinations, commissioners' affidavit, wrapper;
  • [CP 8]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 9-CP 25]: 17 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of St Petersburg, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Berlin, Lubeck and Bremen;
  • [CP 26-CP 27]: 2 schedules of the goods restored by the court and their owners;
  • [CP 28-CP 30]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in Dutch, Danish and German, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in French (84 papers in total, 5 remaining and 79 restored).

Ship's Papers:

  • SP 9, 14, 17, 24, 34: bills of lading issued at Rouen.

[Decision: part of the cargo condemned, 7 October 1748; the ship and the rest of the cargo restored, 18 Oct 1748]
