Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Elizabeth formerly Flora or Juffrouw Catherina (master Claas Smith).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (400 tons, 17 men and boys), bound from Hamburg to St Malo, laden with stone coal, tin, glass ware, iron stoves, starch, linseed oil, steel and copper; taken on 3 /14 March 1747 between Calais and Boulogne by the privateer Fortune (Gilbert Chaine commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, four examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 8-CP 10]: 3 attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg, in April 1747, and brought into court in May 1748;
  • [CP 11-CP 12]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 16 ship's papers [half of these papers were restored].

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1, SP 3, SP 5, SP 7, SP 8, SP 14, SP 15.
