Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Clara (master Harmen Clasen Driest).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (40 tons, 4 men, 1 boy), bound from Hamburg to Rouen, laden with beeswax, copper, raw cotton and barrels; taken on 11/22 June 1747 near Dover by the privateer King George (John Harder commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit and wrapper;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master, October 1747;
  • [CP 8 -CP 18]: 11 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Berlin, Dresden, Altona, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Bremen, Copenhagen, between July and August 1747, and brought into court in November 1747;
  • [CP 19 -CP 20]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 56 ship's papers [all of these papers were restored].
