Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Agatha (master Joris van Husse).

History: a Dutch merchant ship (140 tons, 7 men and 1 boy), bound from Cork to Bordeaux (although, the crew was told it was bound for Amsterdam or Zierickzee when they were hired) laden with beef, butter and candles; taken on 4/15 August 1746 at the entrance of the river of Bordeaux by the privateer Mary Galley (Samuel Thoume commanding), and brought into Guernsey.

  • [CP 4-CP 6]: 3 attestations and claims of the masters, brought into court 30 September and 1 October 1746;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: 2 specifications of claims, brought into court 23 October 1746;
  • [CP 10]: attestation as to the perishing nature of the cargo, brought into court October 23 1746;
  • [CP 11]: Interlocutory, 17 November 1746;
  • [CP 12-CP 15]: 3 translations of attestations by the ruling authorities of Rotterdam (originals and affidavits missing), translated 14 November 1746;
  • [CP 16]: attestation of Bernhard Schaffer with three papers (letters) annexed, brought into court 17 November 1746;
  • [CP 16-CP 17]: 2 attestations with translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Rotterdam, September and December 1746, and brought into court 9 December 1746;
  • [CP 18]: attestation of John Edwards with translation of a letter (see annex CP 16), brought into court 5 March 1747;
  • [CP 19]: attestation of William de Jersey, brought into court 6 March 1747;
  • [CP 20-CP 21]: verdicts of 20 March 1747;
  • [CP 22-CP 23]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 5 ship's papers [one of these papers was restored, some papers were thrown over board by the captain before the capture].

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 4.
