Description

Captured ship: Jonge Johan (master Thomas Siefers).

History: a Lubeck merchant ship (97 tons, 12 men 3 boys), bound from Bordeaux to Hamburg, laden with wine, sugar, indigo, vinegar, paper, etc; taken on 1/12 May 1748 near Beachy Head by the privateers Duke William (Richard Gravener commanding) and Dolphin (Thomas Pierce commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP -CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master, 25 May 1747;
  • [CP 7-CP 21]: 14 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Lubeck, Hamburg, Altona, Hanover and Hirschberg, and brought into court in July 1748;
  • [CP 22-CP 23]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the ship's papers [all these papers were restored].

Decision: restored as neutral, 28 July 1748]
