Description

Captured ship: St Johannes of Flensburg (master Johannes Sybrandt).

History: a Danish ship (42 tons, 6 men, 1 boy), bound from Bordeaux to Copenhagen, laden with wine, oil, brandy, paper, coffee, truffles, etc.; taken on 1/12 April 1748 near Dover by the privateer Prince Edward (Robert Jones commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 7]: attestation of the master;
  • [CP 8-CP 14]: 7 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Copenhagen, Aarhus, Helsingor [Elsinore] and North Jutland, between 2 May and 17 May 1748, and brought into court on 21 June 1748;
  • [CP 15-CP 16]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 36 ship's papers [all of these papers were restored].

[Decision: restored as neutral, 1 July 1748.]
