Description

Captured ship: La Jeune Monarque of Nantes (master Francois Duque).

History: a French merchant ship with letter of marque (200 tons, 12 carriage guns, 39 men), bound from Nantes to Saint Domingue, laden with salt, bricks and tiles; taken on 17/28 March 1748 off the Belle Isle by the privateer Hope (John Ahier commanding), and brought into Guernsey.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 3]: allegation;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 18 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 18.
