Captured ship: La Jeannette of Nantes (master Julien Hiron).
History: a French merchant ship [(English built, 150-200 tons, 3 guns, 6 swivel guns, 15 men, a prize bought from the Spanish), bound from Guinea via Leogane, Saint Domingue to Nantes laden with sugar, hides, cowries, elephants' teeth and dollars]; taken on 22 June/3 July 1744 in latitude 47º 13' by HMS Hampton Court (Savage Mostyn commanding) in company with HMS Chester (Francis Geary commanding) and HMS Grampus sloop (Richard Collins commanding), and brought into the River Thames.
Court Papers:
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 11, with 11 being a sheet torn from a naval muster book, and used as a sealed wrapper.
