Captured ship: L'Invincible (commander Jacques Grout de St George).
History: a French warship (1,500 tons, 74 guns, 700 men), bound to convoy a French East India Company ship [Philibert ?] from Rochefort to Madeira or Canada; taken in fight [after the first battle of Cape Finisterre] on 6/17 May 1747 north of Cape Finisterre by Vice-Admiral George Anson's squadron, and brought into Portsmouth.
