Captured ship: Industry (master Jean Detcheverry as prize master).
History: a French prize (a snow, 50 tons, 75 men before capture on 20 November 1747- including many passengers from Newfoundland to Waterford: originally the French St Bonaventure, taken by HMS Monmouth on 29 November/ 10 December 1746; then as the English ship Industry of Teignmouth (master Thomas Gasking - 'a large man') bound from Newfoundland to Bristol laden with codfish and oil, taken on 20/31 November 1747 by the French privateer La Meduze of Bayonne (Jean Laparade commanding), and now bound for France; retaken on 25 November/ 6 December 1747 north of Cape Ortugal by the privateer Saltash (George Powell commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.
Court Papers:
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 29, including letters (mail in transit and master's archive) in English and French from Newfoundland and at sea, and ship's papers and bills of exchange in English.
