Description

Captured ship: L'Imprevue of Le Havre (master Benjamin Chaille, or Chailles).

History: a French merchant ship (170 tons, 21 men, 2 passengers), bound from Martinique to Bordeaux, La Rochelle or Nantes, laden with sugar, coffee, cotton, cocoa and copper; taken on 14/25 November 1744 off Ferrol, Spain by the privateer George (John Leonard commanding), and brought into the port of Exeter.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 4]: three examinations, standing interrogatories, 2 attestations as to papers (all sealed on a thong);
  • [CP 5]: commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation.

Ship's Papers [bound amongst court papers] numbered SP 1-SP 2.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 15 January1745]
