Description

Captured ships: L'Hirondelle (master Johannes Frederick) and Peter Nell (master Jean Dowes)

History: two French fishing boats (1 and 5 men respectively), from Dunkirk; taken on 14 Oct 1746 off Dunkirk by the privateer Carlisle (William Owen commanding), and brought into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 4]: standing interrogatories, two examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 5]: release of the claim by John Lott and Robert Hoskines, prizemasters;
  • [CP 6]: attestation as to the value of the ships being under the value of £40;
  • [CP 7]: allegation.

[Decision: both condemned as prize, 15 January 1747]
