Description

Captured ship: Hwita Lambet or Hweissi Lamb or De Wielam Frederick (master Friedrich Christian Stadtlender).

History: a Swedish ship (28 lasts, 6 men and 1 boy), bound from Stockholm to Le Havre, laden with iron, pitch, tar, fir deals, and smalt; taken on 9/20 February 1748 by the privateer Rainbow (Joseph Childs commanding), and brought into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 13 ship's papers [8 of which were restored].

Ship's Papers:

  • SP 1 - SP 2: two bills of lading issued at Stockholm, declaring their intention to sail for Lisbon;
  • SP A - SP C: three papers in Dutch issued at Stockholm relating to customs.

[Decision: cargo condemned, ship restored as neutral, 5 April 1748]
