Description

Captured ship: L'Heroine (commander Antoine Louis Lamaignere).

History: a French privateer (140 tons, 110 men), bound from Bayonne on a cruise; taken on 22 November / 3 December 1747 in latitude 48º30'N by HMS Hampshire (Lionel Daniel commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 2 ship's papers [one of which is wanting].

Ship's Papers:

  • SP A: muster roll [missing];
  • SP B: letter of marque.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 20 January 1748]
