Description

Captured ship: L'Hermine of Nantes (commander Pierre Charon).

History: a French privateer (180 tons, 36 guns, 142 men) bound fron Nantes on a cruise; taken in fight on 18/29 September 1746 in latitude 46º50'N near Ushant by HMS Nottingham ([Richard] Dorrell commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, note apologising for the poor quality of the paper;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8]: abstracts and translations of the 2 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers:

  • SPA: letter of marque;
  • SPB: muster roll.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 3 November 1746]
