Captured ship: Friendship (master Lockhart; as a French prize, Claude Donjou).
History: a British merchant ship (140 tons, 103 men including passengers when retaken); taken on 8/19 May 1744 by the French privateer St Jean Baptiste of St Malo (Peter Vincent, or Ribart, commanding), and taken into Griquet Harbour in Newfoundland where her cargo of cloth, groceryware, shoes, bridles, saddles etc was sold and the ship was loaded with 60,000 dried cod and 139 casks of oil and, carrying the crews of some other ships as passengers, set out for St Malo; retaken after a chase on 14/25 October 1744 four leagues off Roscoff by the privateer Guernsey (Elias Piton commanding), and brought into Guernsey.
