Description

Captured ship: La Fortune de la Mer (master Jochem Jeske).

History: a Danzig ship (90 lasts, 9 men) bound from Danzig to Brest, laden with oak planks, fir deals and pipe staves; taken on 31 January / 11 February 1745 off Dungeness by the privateers Eagle (John Bazely commanding) and Swift (George Hudson commanding) and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6- CP 8]: copy of protest, attestation and claim, and additional attestation;
  • [CP 9-CP 14]: additional interrogatories, four examinations on the additional interrogatories, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 15]: allegation;
  • [CP 16-CP 17]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of 3 of the 7 ship's papers. [All these papers were restored].
