Captured ship: La Fortune (master François Maillet La Coste).
History: a French merchant ship (300 tons, 10 guns, 25 men and 1 passenger), bound from Saint Louis [Saint-Louis-du-Sud] Saint-Domingue to Nantes or La Rochelle, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo and hides; formerly the Fortune of Liverpool (master Francis Green), taken in 1745 between Africa and Jamaica by a French or Spanish ship, and taken into Port Louis [Saint-Louis-du-Sud, Saint-Domingue]; retaken on 23 June / 4 July 1747 about 30 leagues from Belle Isle by HMS Kent (Thomas Fox commanding), and brought into Portsmouth or London.
