Captured ship: Fanny and Nancy (master William Toy, or as a French prize, Jean Mirambeau).
History: an English merchant ship or billander (120 tons, 2 guns, 11 men and 1 woman), bound from Maryland to Bristol, laden with tobacco, pig iron and staves; taken on 17 / 28 May 1748 in latitude 49°, 155 leagues north-west of Cape Ortegal by the French privateer Temeraire of Bayonne (Pierre Garlon commanding); retaken on 23 May / 3 June 1748 in latitude 46° 46', 54 leagues west of Cape Ortegal by the privateer London (Joseph Barker commanding) in sight of HMS Ranger (Anthony Kerly commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
