Captured ship: Fanny of Scarborough (master Thomas Ansdell).
History: a British merchant ship (200 tons, 8 guns, 14 men), bound from Cape Fear, North Carolina to London, laden with pitch, tar, turpentine and rice; taken on 12 February 1748 in 50°N by the French privateer Gloire (Thomas Donat commanding); retaken from the French on 21 February 1748 45 leagues off Cape Ortegal by a joint Anglo-Dutch fleet commanded by Sir Peter Warren and Cornelis Schryver, and brought into Plymouth.
