Description

Captured ship: Le Furet of St Malo (commander Pierre Jacques Le Gueroulte La Place).

History: a French privateer (70 tons, 28 guns, 114 men, mostly from France, a few from Spain and Genoa, one black crewmember), boound from St Malo on a cruise; taken on 11 June 1746 by HMS Maidstone (Augustus Keppel commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7]: abstracts and translations of the 4 ships' papers.

  • SP A-SP B: letter of marque, muster roll;
  • SP C-SP D: customs house clearance, instructions.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 5 August 1746]
