Description

Captured ship: Le Furet of Boulogne (commander Jean Baptiste du Chesne or Duchene).

History: a French privateer (24 tons, 14 guns, 42 men), bound from Boulogne on a cruise; taken on 23 November 1746 near Portland by HMS Jamaica (Marriot Arbuthnot commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7 - CP 8]: attestation as to papers, abstract translations of 4 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers:

  • (SP 1) - (SP 2): letter of marque and muster roll;
  • (SP 3) - (SP 4): extract from the registry of the admiralty court at Boulogne and port certificate;
  • (SP 5) - (SP 22): blank ransom notes, copies of orders, one receipt.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 15 January 1747]
