Description

Captured ship: Friends Goodwill (master John Curling or, as a French prize, Barbeguinant).

History: an English ship (200 tons, 14 men), bound from South Carolina to London, laden with rice, turpentine, pitch, sugar, skins, mahogany, indigo and cotton; taken by the French privateer La Dauphine (Andre de la Rue commanding), retaken on 14 September 1745 by the English privateer Fox (Philiip Hogan commanding), and brought into Bristol.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the owner;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: two attestations;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: commission of appraisement and inventory;
  • [CP 11]: attestation.

[Decision: restored paying 1/2 salvage 4 February 1747]
