Description

Captured ship: Le Frère Aisné (master Claude Palette or Paulet).

History: a French privateer (18 tons, 6 guns, 20 men from France and Italy), bound from Boulogne on a cruise; taken on 7 May off the coast of Yarmouth by HMS Dispatch (Henry Barnsley commanding), and brought into Great Yarmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 3]: allegation;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestation as to papers, abstract and translations of the 5 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers,numbered SP 1-SP 5.

  • SP 1-SP 5: letter of marque, muster roll, three commissions of war granted to the captain.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 6 September 1748]
