Description

Captured ship: De Frau Adelheit otherwise Juffrouw Adelide (master Pieter Niendahl).

History: a Danish ship (110 tons, six men), bound from Bordeaux to Amsterdam, laden with wine, prunes, chestnuts and dry goods; taken on 11 January 1748 by the privateer Hawk (Thomas Holman commanding), and brought into Rye.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, four examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 8]: schedule of bills of lading;
  • [CP 9 -CP 14]: five sets of attestations, affidavits and translations with one copy bill of lading, issued by the ruling authorities of Friesland, Amsterdam and Harlem;
  • [CP 15-CP 17]: attestation as to papers, one set of abstracts and translations of 41 papers taken in French, a second for 41 papers and two bundles of letters in Dutch, German and Danish [most of these papers were restored].

Ship's Papers: all but three restored;

  • SP 7, SP 14: two bills of lading in Dutch issued at Amsterdam;
  • SP 18: receipt in Dutch for one bushel of chestnuts.
