Description

Captured ship: Le Frappe d'Abord (master Jacques Tueux).

History: a French privateer (45 tons, 8 guns, 54 men, mostly French but 8 from Genoa, 1 from Spain and 1 from the Netherlands), bound from Boulogne on a cruise; taken on 10 April 1747 near Portland by HMS Salisbury (George Edgecumbe commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7]: abstract and two translations of the 4 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 4.

  • SP 1: instructions from Boulogne;
  • SP 2: certificate of the ship's gauge:
  • SP 3: muster roll;
  • SP 4: letter of marque.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 4 May 1747]
