Description

Captured ship: St François (master Jean Lafargue or Lafalgue).

History: a French ship (180 tons, 4 guns, 23 men), bound from Bordeaux to Quebec, laden with wine, brandy and bale goods; taken on 17 April 1748 by the privateer Cezar (Daniel Roland commanding), and brought into Guernsey.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, docket;
  • [CP 2]: allegaton;
  • [CP 3 -CP 4]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the 70 ships' papers;

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 70.

  • SP 1-SP 2: letter to Quebec, captain's orders;
  • SP 3-SP 6: French pass, customs declaration, customs clearance, muster roll;
  • SP 7-SP 70: 64 bills of lading to ship goods from Bordeaux to Quebec.
