Description

Captured ship: François of St Malo(master Jean Baptiste Nicholas Sebire).

History: a French privateer (160 tons, 24 guns, 53 men), crusing out of St Malo; taken on 26 August 1746 by HMS Inverness (Julian Legg commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1 - CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6 - CP 7]: two allegations, one given in by the commander of the Inverness, the other from the commander of the Royal George cutter;
  • [CP 8]: abstracts and translations of five of the ship's papers.

Ships' Papers:

  • SPA-SP C: letter of marque, muster roll, customs clearance issued at St Malo;
  • SP 1-SP 3: warrant issued to Jean Baptiste Nicholas Sebire, letter in French to the commander, invoice.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 2 October 1746]
