Description

Captured ship: St François of Bordeaux (master Jean Lamarque).

History: a French ship (180 tons, 6 guns, 21 men), bound from Martinique to Bordeaux, laden with coffee, sugar and indigo; taken on 27 June 1744 by three ships, HMS Hampton Court (Savage Mostyn commanding), HMS Chester (Francis Geary commanding) and HMS Grampus (Richard Collins commanding) and brought into London.

  • [Examinations taken in London, see: HCA 13/90, fos 74-75]
  • [CP 1]: allegation;
  • [CP 2-CP 3]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the 10 ships' papers;
  • [CP 4]: wrapper.

Ship's Papers, originally numbered 1-10.

  • SP 1-SP 7: bills of lading from Martinique, Bayonne and Bordeaux;
  • SP 8-SP 10: French pass, cargo manifest, muster roll;
  • SP 11-SP 12: victualling book and note (added from HCA 32/1829).
  • SP 13-SP 14: cargo manifest and letter from 1743 (added from HCA 32/127/47).
