Description

Captured ship: St Francisco de Paola (San Francisco de Paola) (master Joseph Cruañas).

History: a Spanish (Catalan) ship (122 tons, 4 guns, 18 men), bound from Gaeta to Barcelona, returning from transporting Spanish soldiers; taken in [early 1745] in the Seas of Bastia by HMS Spence (Matthew Buckle commanding), and brought into Genoa.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: allegation;
  • [CP 2]: abstracts and translations of the 5 ship's papers in Spanish and Italian.

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 7.

  • SP 1: charterparty issued in Barcelona;
  • SP 2: muster roll;
  • SP 3: instructions issued to Joseph Cruañas;
  • SP 4: bill of health issued in Gaeta;
  • SP 5: examinations taken before the consul at Genoa of 3 of the Catalan crew, in Italian;
  • SP 6-SP 7: letter from Genoa enclosing all of the above ship's papers, docket;

[Decision: condemned as prize, 12 March 1745]
