Description

Captured ship: Le Fortuné (master Jean Gilles or Gille).

History: a French privateer (60 tons, 18 guns, 33 men), bound from St Malo on a cruise; taken on 8 October 1746 near Barfleur by HMS Weazle (Hugh Palliser commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1 - CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7 - CP 8]: abstracts and translations of the two ship's papers.

Ship's papers:

  • SP 1 - SP 2: letter of marque, muster roll;

[Decision: condemned as prize, 21 November 1746]
