Description

Captured ship: Fortuna (master Lorens Helmer).

History: a Danish ship (18 lasts, 5 men), bound from Bordeaux to Aarhus, laden with looking glasses, gloves, Hungary water, sweetmeats and brandy; taken on 19 September 1745 by the privateer Carlisle (William Owen commanding), and brought into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, four examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: allegation and attestation;
  • [CP 10-CP 13]: attestation as to papers, three sets of abstracts and translations of the 27 ship's papers (one for eighteen papers in Dutch, Danish and German, one for six papers in French, one for three papers in Danish) [these papers were restored].
