Description

Captured ship: La Fleur de la Mer (master Pierre Cottin).

History: a French privateer (60 tons, 6 guns, 76 men), bound from St Malo on a cruise; taken on 15/26 March 1748 by the privateer Tygress (John Hamley commanding), and brought into Bristol.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 5 ship's papers;

Ships' Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 5:

  • SP 1: permit for the vessel to cruise out of St Malo;
  • SP 2: copy letter from the King of France concerning Dutch ships;
  • SP 3: orders given for fitting out the ship;
  • SP 4-SP 5: muster roll, letter of marque.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 3 May 1748]
