Description

Captured ship: La Fidelle (master Pierre Jouenne).

History: a French ship (160 tons, 12 guns, 34 men), bound from Martinique to Bordeaux, laden with sugar and coffee; taken on 16 April 1746 by the privateer Eaton (Michael Page commanding), and brought into Lisbon.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: commissioners' affidavit, three examinations taken before the vice-consul at Lisbon;
  • [CP 2]: allegation;
  • [CP 3] - [CP 4]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the seventeen ships' papers;

Ships' Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 17.

  • SP 1: navigation journal beginning in October 1745;
  • SP 2 - SP 3: two letters from Martinique with envelopes;
  • SP 4 - SP 7: small notes and papers;
  • SP 8 - SP 10: articles of agreement, ordinances concerning French Caribbean convoys, French pass;
  • SP 11: bill of lading issued at Martinique;
  • SP 12 - SP 14: Bordeaux customs clearance, statement concerning damage to the ship at Martinique, convoy permit for the return to Bordeaux;
  • SP 15 - SP 17: letter of marque, two customs documents from Martinique;
