Description

Captured ship: La Fidelle of La Havre (master Richard Fabary).

History: a French ship (200 tons, 12 guns, 5 men and 4 passengers), bound from Martinique to Le Havre , laden with sugar, cotton and coffee; taken on 11 June 1746 by the privateer Salamander (Henry Strangways commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1] - [CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, docket;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7]: abstracts and translations of the 4 ship's papers;

Ships' Papers numbered SP 1-SP 4:

  • (SP 1): muster roll;
  • (SP 2): French pass;
  • (SP 3): customs' declaration from Martinique;
  • (SP 4): cargo manifest;

[Decision: condemned as prize, 26 May 1746]
