Description

Captured ship: Le Fidèle (Le Fidel, Le Fidelle) (master Joseph Lagere).

History: a French merchant ship (150 tons, 10 guns, 37 men, 1 passenger) bound from Martinique to Bordeaux, laden with coffee, sugar and cotton; taken in fight on 22 January 1745 in latitude 45º30 by the privateer Townshend (Nicholas Lewis commanding), and brought into Bristol.

  • [CP 1] - [CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation as to the perishing nature of the cargo;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8] - [CP 9]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the 7 ships' papers;
