Description

Captured ship: Elizabeth Catherina (master Arend Cornelisen).

History: a Swedish merchant ship, bound [north-about] from Cette to Le Havre, laden with wine; taken in [April] 1747 by the privateer Cumberland (Henry Cooper commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1]: attestation and claim of the master, May 1747;
  • [CP 2]: attestation as to the perishing nature of the cargo, by bad weather on the coast of Norway and the long voyage;
  • [CP 3]: articles of agreement of the captain and crew of the privateerCumberland , with seals; brought into court, May 1747;
  • [CP 4-CP 7]: commission of appraisement and sale, account of costs and sale, covering letter and docket.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 20 June 1747]
