Description

Captured ship: De Eendraght or Concord (master Edsert de Graaf or de Graaft).

History: a Dutch merchant ship (170 lasts, 19 men and 1 passenger), bound from Martinique (where they had been forced by sickness, instead of continuing to St Eustatius as intended) to Amsterdam, laden with coffee, cotton, sugar, cocoa and lemon juice; taken on 1/12 March 1747 in latitude 49º12 by the privateer Sheerness (Peter Griffin commanding) and brought first into Milford Haven and then into Bristol.

  • [CP 1-CP 29]: standing interrogatories, special interrogatories, 26 examinations taken at Bristol, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 30-CP 34]: allegation and claim of the master, with 3 translated attestations, April 1747;
  • [CP 35-CP 38]: four further attestations taken in Bristol (one of M Durbé, the passenger, now a prisoner of war on parole), May 1747;
  • [CP 39-CP 43]: five further attestations taken in London;
  • [CP 44-CP 45]: two allegations, July 1747;
  • [CP 46-CP 64]: accounts and receipts for expenses, prepared for restitution;
  • [CP 65-CP 71]: attestation as to papers, and 6 abstracts and translations of the ship's papers [these papers were restored], as follows:-
    • [CP 66]: A: 14 documents;
    • [CP 67]: B: 41 documents;
    • [CP 68]: C: 5 manuscript books belonging to the mate, Jan Andries Molderop;
    • [CP 69]: D: sundry documents translated from previous lists;
    • [CP 70]: E: translation of the journal of Jan Andries Molderop;
    • [CP 71]: F: translation of the journal of the master and Jan Andries Molderop.

[Decision: restored as a Dutch ally (less costs and expenses, and on security for payment), 13 July 1747]
