Description

Captured ship: Eolus or L'Eole (master Nicklas Siostrom).

History: a Swedish ship (brigantine, 140 tons, 9 men), bound from Marseilles and Cette to Lubeck, laden with wine; taken on 20/[31] August 1747 at Studland Bay by the privateers Swift of London (William Johnson commanding) and George, and brought into Poole.

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 3]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 4-CP 9]: 2 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Lubeck, and a statement from the master with a copy bill of lading from Marseilles;
  • [CP 10-CP 12]: attestation as to papers, an abstract, and translation of the 22 ships papers in French, Swedish, Danish and Dutch [these papers were restored].
