Captured ship: Le Duc de Chartres (master Joseph Fouquet de Rumeil).
History: a French East Indiaman with letter of marque (600 tons, 30 guns, 167 men, 25 marines and 3 passengers), bound from Lorient to Mauritius, laden with wine, brandy, flour, cordage, bombs, powder and other stores; taken in a four-hour fight (800 shots fired by the French) on 18/29 August 1747 off Ushant by HMS Bellona (Samuel Barrington commanding), and brought into Penzance.
