Description

Captured ship: Duc de Boufflers of Dunkirk (commander Richard Barbier).

History: a French privateer (10 tons, 4 swivel guns, 18 men, an English ship taken by the French), bound from Dunkirk on a cruise; taken on 15/26 April 1747 off Flushing by the privateer Eagle (John Bazely commanding), and brought first into Flushing, and then into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Dover, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and one translation of the 21 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 21 [SP 5-SP 6, and SP 16-SP 17 are not here].

[Decision: condemned as prize, 23 June 1747]
