Description

Captured ship: La Chatte of Dunkirk (master Norbert Kempinck).

History: a French privateer (70 tons, 8 carriage guns, 12 swivel guns, 67 men) bound on a cruise; taken on 14/25 March 1745 off Great Yarmouth by HMS Wager (Arthur Forrest commanding) and brought into London.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: standing interrogatories, and three examinations (taken at Great Yarmouth) with commissioners' affidavit [one document];
  • [CP 3]: allegation;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 7 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 7: SP 3 (orders of the King of France about shares of prizes) is missing.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 29 April 1745]
