Description

Captured ship: Catherina Cecillia otherwise Catrina Sicillia of Drontheim [Trondheim, Norway] (master Lauritz Rosholt).

History: a Danish ship bound from Bayonne to Trondheim, laden with wine; forced into English waters by stress of weather, and seized by the Customs at Plymouth for having French wines on board.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, April 1748;
  • [CP 6]: claim of the master and attestation, May 1748;
  • [CP 7-CP 9]: standing interrogatories, one examinations, commissioners' affidavit, July 1748;
  • [CP 10]: commission of appraisement and sale for ship and carog at Plymouth, July 1748;
  • [CP 11-CP 13]: expences, inventory, and account of the sale, August 1748;
  • [CP 14]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 14 ship's papers [10 of which were restored].

Ship's papers: four only of the original 13 papers, one marked SP A, and others numbered SP 1-SP 3.

[Decision: part of cargo condemned, the ship and the rest of the cargo restored as neutral, 7 July 1748]
