Captured ship: St Claire of Nantes (master Pierre Birgan or Birgant or Biergam).
History: a French merchant ship (100 tons, 4 guns, 18 men), bound from Fort Dauphin, Saint Domingue to Nantes, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo and skins; taken on 21 June/2 July 1747 in 47º30 by HMS Eagle (George Bridges Rodney commanding), and brought into the Downs.
