Description

Captured ship: La Charlotte of Le Havre (master Pierre François Emanuel Brebion).

History: a French merchant ship (150 tons, 4 guns, 6 swivel guns, 14 men) bound from Cap François, Saint Domingue to Le Havre, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo, hides and cotton; taken on 22 June/3 July 1747 by HMS Eagle (George Bridges Rodney commanding), and brought into the Downs, and then into the River Thames.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Deal, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation that the ship is being damaged by grinding at every low water on the River Thames;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 10]: two attestations as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 6 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers, numbered SP 1-SP 6.
