Captured ship: Le Chevalier Bart of Dunkirk, a snow (master Joannis Coiffin).
History: a French merchant ship, formerly the St Joseph, with a letter of marque (150 tons, 8 cannon, 16 men), bound from Martinique to Dunkirk, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo and tobacco; taken on 16/27 May 1744 in the soundings of the British Channel by HMS Monmouth (Henry Harrison commanding) in company with the squadron commanded by Admirals Sir Charles Hardy and William Martin, and brought into Portsmouth.
