Captured ship: Charming Peggy brigantine (master Robert Hodges and, as a French prize, Simpée).
History: an English merchant ship, laden with barrel staves, flour and pig iron; taken on 23 July/3 August 1746 at 49º by the French privateer L'Eclair of Bayonne (Devoisin commanding), and retaken on 30 July/10 August 1746 at 47º by the privateer Southwell of Bristol (John Engledue commanding), and brought into Bristol.
