Description

Captured ship: Christianetta otherwise La Christianité (master Andreas Deucher or Denker).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (80 Dutch lasts, 13 men), first bound from Smyrna to Leghorn [Livorno] and there discharged her cargo of camel hair etc, and next bound from Leghorn via Genoa and Sanremo to Hamburg, laden with lemons, wines, marble and other goods; taken on 1 May 1748 by the privateer St Michael (George Cuningham commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations taken at Deal, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: two attestations and claims;
  • [CP 8-CP 20]: a set of attestations, affidavits and translations (in Dutch, Gerrman, Italian and ENglish) taken and sealed by the ruling authorities in Amsterdam, Brandenburg, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Nuremberg and Leipzig, in May and June 1748, and brought into court on 24 June 1748;
  • [CP 21]: attestation as to papers;
  • [CP 22 -CP 23]: two abstracts and translations of the 55 ship's papers, with interesting details of trade and Islamic pilgrimage in Smyrna, papers from Italy and Sweden, and papers from the Vice Admiralty Court of Minorca: mention of a box of many papers in Dutch and English relating to earlier voyages [these papers were restored].
