Captured ship: Le Charon of La Rochelle (master Antoine François Dumont otherwise Dumon or Dumonde).
History: a French merchant ship with letter of marque (160 tons, 10 guns, 4 swivel guns, 37 men, 5 passengers), bound from La Rochelle to Saint Domingue, laden with salt, wine and linen; taken on 20 October 1747 in 40º30 by HMS Centurion (Peter Denis commanding), with the East India Company ships (with letters of marque) Pelham, Augusta and Walpole in convoy, and brought into Portsmouth.
